VNA & Hospice Introduces New Volunteer Programs

Springfield, VT (July 16, 2009) –
“Good Day”!
Would your day be brighter if you called someone else to wish them a “Good Day”?  This new program will offer telephone reassurance and a friendly voice to connect and comfort a patient who might feel isolated and lonely, or who is at risk for falls and accidents. Your call with offer security to the patient and family, to assure all is well.  Most calls will be routine; however, there might be an occasion when the volunteer would need to report a physical problem or other information vital to the care of the patient. Your kindness with these calls will assure that you have a “good day,” too!

Telemed
This monitoring system, in the patient’s home, is a valuable tool used to inform the VNA clinical caregivers of vital readings regarding the patient’s daily condition. Ordered by the patient’s doctor, this system monitors blood pressure, weight, oxygen level and heart rate. When activated, this information is relayed to us so that we can be alerted to changes in the patient’s condition, in advance of a scheduled visit by the nurse. We need volunteers to do simple installations of these systems in the patient’s home to support our daily care.

Lap Robes
Do you knit or crochet? Would you enjoy creating lap robes for warmth and a patient’s enjoyment of having something pretty on his/her lap.  Patients who sit most of the day find these additions to their daily wear a pleasure. The average size is 24” x 36” and they can be of any color. Designs and themes are always fun!  These lap robes are so appreciated and cared for by thankful folks. We are in need of yarn, of all colors, for this project. All donations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

These new programs join our delightful HOSPICE BEAR PROJECT in offering volunteer opportunities for current Hospice volunteers and community friends. If you like to knit and would enjoy making little sweaters and hats for small bears, let us know.  Stop by my office and see these adorable little friends. We have patterns you may use and we are always excited to hear new ideas.  We will soon have a “bride and groom” bear couple!
