Lora Chatfield Earns Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse Certification
West Lebanon, NH —July 22, 2011— Lora Chatfield, RN Case Manager for the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of VT and NH, has recently earned national certification as a hospice and palliative (care) nurse. Originally from Bradford, VT, Lora graduated from Children's Hospital School of Nursing, Boston, studied midwifery in England, returned to the United States and then obtained nurse-midwife certification. Serving as a nurse-midwife in inner city Boston, she went on to earn her BSN from Northeastern University and Master's in Public Health from Boston University.
With a special interest in international health and cross-cultural nursing, Lora spent a year volunteering in Haiti and another year in southern India. In India she worked with the Betsy Elizabeth Trust Fund Creche Project which establishes small schools for 3-5 year olds from the untouchable caste.
Since 2009, Lora has been providing homecare and hospice services with the VNA & Hospice of VT and NH. Serving patients in Bradford and beyond, Lora's highly respected certification will benefit her patients and her colleagues. "Having spent many years earlier in my career assisting women and families as they prepared for the birth of their children as well as attending the births I now feel the same sense of privilege to be a part of the planning, preparation, care and support provided as the end of life draws near for my hospice patients. Just as midwifery care addresses all the aspects of a person - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual - so does hospice care. I find hospice nursing personally enriching and professionally deeply satisfying, each patient and family a source of inspiration and lessons to be learned."
